00110010 es un evento centrado en el paso del tiempo y los cambios en el proceso artístico, organizado por Héctor Mangas Afonso. 00110010 pretende hacer contrastable el progreso de las habilidades creativas de jóvenes artistas, agrupando las obras de sus participantes en una cápsula física enterrada en la cumbre de Tenerife.

En 2020 y junto a David Ujja, la primera edición de la cápsula enterró las piezas de 53 artistas de diecinueve ciudades. La técnica de las obras fue muy variada: pinturas, ilustraciones, fotografías, animaciones, canciones y textos, todas guardadas en formato mixto digital y físico. A la vez que su obra se enterraba, les artistas se comprometieron a eliminar todos los restos de su proyecto para que solo fueran accesibles mediante el recuerdo.

Dos años después, como estaba planeado, 00110010 revive para volver a llamar a sus participantes. Este verano les jóvenes creativos recrearán sus proyectos desde la memoria, antes de recuperar la cápsula. El aislamiento de dos años pretende servir para que cada participante destile los recuerdos de su obra hasta su esencia y abre la puerta a una reinterpretación bajo nuevas circunstancias.

Después de rehacer las obras, la cápsula será desenterrada, permitiendo a los participantes contrastar su progreso. Les artistas que lo deseen podrán entonces formar parte de una exposición con todas las obras creadas para el evento: las de 2020 y sus reinterpretaciones de dos años después. La reapertura está planeada para el 2 de agosto de 2022, con la exposición sucediendo ese mismo fin de semana.

A su vez, 00110010 da la bienvenida a nuevos artistas, que podrán participar en el siguiente ciclo 2022-2024. Estos podrán reservar un espacio mediante esta página.

00110010 is an event that looks at how time affects the creative process, organized by Héctor Mangas Afonso. With the goal of making creative progress evident, 00110010 retains the creative work of its participants in an inaccessible capsule, buried in the summit of the Spanish island of Tenerife.

In 2020 and together with David Ujja, the first edition of the capsule collected the work of 53 artists from nineteen different cities. The pieces came in several different techniques: paintings, photographs, animations, songs and texts, all stored in two twin capsules that keep them digitally as well as in physical form. Participants compromised to eliminate all remainders of their work as the capsule was buried, in order to make the pieces only available through memory.

Two years later, as envisioned, 00110010 returns to call its participants. This summer, the capsule’s evolving creatives will recreate their projects entirely from memory, before the capsule is unburied. This two-year interval of isolation should have helped distill the memories each project left in their creatives, facilitating reinterpretation under new circumstances.

After recreating the works, the capsule will be unearthed, letting participants check their creative progress. Artists are then invited to be part of an exhibition with all pieces created for the event: those made in 2020 and their reinterpretation after two years. The reopening is scheduled to happen on August 2, 2022. The aforementioned exhibition will occur the very next weekend.

1. Concepto. Con el objetivo de convertir el progreso en algo contrastable, 00110010 congela las obras de sus participantes en una cápsula inaccesible durante ciclos de dos años, empezando en 2020. Antes de su reapertura bianual los participantes de la cápsula anterior rehacen las piezas originales exclusivamente desde la memoria. Recrear la pieza teniendo sólo acceso al título y técnica de la misma permite una reinterpretación bajo nuevas circunstancias y vuelve tangible el progreso creativo.
   
   
2. Temática. Las piezas de les participantes deben seguir una temática relacionada con el mundo postal. La inspiración puede venir de cartas, postales o sellos; o correos y los conceptos asociados a él, como buzones o el papel del cartero. El estilo es libre y cada artista puede elegir la forma en que quiere interpretar la temática de 00110010.
   
   
3. Formato. Preferentemente digital y con técnica libre. Se aceptan proyectos de cualquier disciplina artística. El proyecto habrá de ser original e inédito, y debe haber sido producido ex profeso para este evento a menos de seis meses de la apertura bianual. El tamaño máximo de cada entrega es de 4GB y puede consistir en una carpeta o un archivo individual. El formato del archivo es de elección libre, siempre que no sean archivos ejecutables (.exe, .dmg).
   
   
4. Entrega. Cada participante solo puede entregar un proyecto y solo los archivos finales se almacenarán (preferiblemente ningún archivo de programa). Si la entrega no pretende ser digital, pedimos se informe con antelación para confirmar el espacio en la cápsula física. Se hará un escaneo digital de los proyectos físicos para evitar su potencial degradación.
   
   
5. Fechas. Para les participantes de la cápsula de 2020, la fecha límite de entrega de la segunda pieza es el 1 de agosto de 2022 a las 23:59 GMT. Quienes lo deseen podrán participar en una exposición de cuatro días durante el fin de semana del 5 de agosto. Para aquelles que participan en 00110010 por primera vez, la fecha límite de entrega es el 11 de agosto a las 23:59 GMT, un día antes de la clausura de la cápsula hasta 2024, el 12 de agosto.
   
   
6. Eliminación. Al enviar su proyecto, cada participante deberá borrar cualquier copia o recibo de su pieza, así como archivos de programa y/o restos digitales o físicos, con el objetivo de preservar toda la información del proyecto exclusivamente en la cápsula. Durante los dos años nadie tendrá acceso a las obras, ya que se encontrarán aisladas en dos cápsulas gemelas enterradas en dos puntos de Tenerife.
   
   
7. Autoría. 00110010 sirve de plataforma para el crecimiento de sus participantes y cada obra se mostrará en la exposición bianual solo bajo confirmación explícita. Cada cápsula tiene un registro de participantes y sus obras, y 00110010 se compromete a mantenerlo durante dos años para completar cada ciclo.
   
   
8. Compromiso. Al participar en este evento se espera de le artista un compromiso de dos años, en los que no accederá ni al proyecto ni a ningún contenido generado en su proceso. Cada artista se compromete a haber leído este manifiesto y seguir todos sus puntos.

Before its biannual reopening, the participants of the previous capsule are called to remake their original pieces exclusively from memory. A reinterpretation under new circumstances is inevitably caused by recreating each piece having only access to its title, making creative progress tangible.
   
   
2. Theme. All creative pieces must follow a theme related to the postal world. Inspiration can come from letters, postcards or stamps; or post and the concepts associated with it, such as mailboxes or the role of the postperson. Each participant is free to choose their piece’s style, with personal freedom to interpret the 00110010’s theme.
   
   
3. Format. Format is preferably digital, and there’s freedom in the technique choice. Projects from all artistic disciplines are accepted. Each project must be original and unpublished, and must have been explicitly produced for this event. All participant pieces must also have been produced within the six months prior to the biannual opening. The maximum size of each submission is 4GB. It can consist of an individual file or folder. Freedom of choice is given for file formats, as long as they’re not executable files (.exe, .dmg).
   
   
4. Submission. Each participant is only allowed to submit one project and only the final files will be saved in the capsule (preferably no program files). If the submission is not intended to be digital, we ask participants to inform us in advance to confirm that space in the physical capsule will be available. Physical projects will be scanned to avoid their potential degradation.
   
   
5. Deadlines. For participants of the 2020 capsule, the deadline for submission of their second piece is August 1, 2022 at 23:59 GMT. Those who wish can participate in a four-day exhibition during the weekend of August 5. For those participating in 00110010 for the first time, the submission deadline is August 11 at 23:59 GMT, one day before the burial of the capsule until 2024, on August 12.
   
   
6. Destruction. Each participant must get rid of all copies and receipts of their piece right after submitting it. This also includes program files and digital or physical remainders, with the aim of preserving all project information exclusively in the capsule. During the two following years, no one will have access to the pieces. They will be physically isolated in two twin capsules buried in two separate locations in the Spanish island of Tenerife.
   
   
7. Authorship. 00110010 is a platform for the creative growth of its participants. For this, each piece will be shown in the biannual exhibition only upon explicit agreement with the artist, and works won’t be used in any other form. For each capsule, a directory of participants and their works is created, and 00110010 agrees to keep it during each two-year cycle.
   
   
8. Commitment. By participating in this event, each creative is expected to commit for the lapse of two years, in which they will not access their piece or any content generated in its process. Each artist agrees to have read this manifesto and obey all of its items.
